Wykład otwarty "Radiance Field Representations and coding"

W ramach programu „Inicjatywa Doskonała Współpraca Międzynarodowa - wizyty krótkoterminowe” Politechnikę Poznańską odwiedzi Profesor Stuart Perry z University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
W programie wizyty zaplanowano między innymi wykład dedykowany doktorantom:

  • Radiance Field Representations and Coding – wykład otwarty26 czerwca 2026 r., godz. 9.45-12.00 (sala L051, Biblioteka Techniczna).

Abstract:

A drive toward higher fidelity 3D representations has resulted in new modes of representing 3D scenes for both static and dynamic instances, these higher fidelity representations enable exciting new applications. In this lecture we will be looking at these emerging representations, the use cases and applications of this technology, requirements needed to achieve these applications, the basic principles of deriving, rendering and coding and how these methods compare to existing representations.

Short bio:

Professor Stuart Perry from University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a distinguished, globally recognized scientist with over two decades of rigorous experience in digital image processing, visual psychophysics, signal processing, and the development of computational models for quantifying image preference and aesthetics in 3D environments. His career seamlessly blends high-level academic theory with advanced industrial implementation, spanning roles from the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) to a long-term leadership position directing research teams at Canon Information Systems Research Australia (CiSRA).

He has consistently published his most impactful work in the core journals of his discipline, including IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, Expert Systems with Applications, and the Journal of Vision. Beyond publishing,
Professor Perry holds a substantial portfolio of intellectual property, including 20 patents and patent applications, primarily focused on advanced imaging systems and medical acquisition devices.

Crucially, the most significant aspect of Professor Perry’s profile is his leadership within global standardization bodies. He represents Australia on several ISO standardization committees, including ISO/TC42, ISO/SC29/WG7 (MPEG), and ISO/SC29/WG1 (JPEG).
Within these structures, he holds the decision-making roles of Chair of the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG1 JPEG Pleno Point Cloud Activity and Co-chair for Radiance Fields compression and the Co-Chair of the Plenoptic Coding and Quality Sub Group overseeing quality assessment. Hosting a researcher with such profound influence on the design of global data transmission norms provides Poznan University of Technology with a direct conduit to help shape the world's telecommunications standards.
